You Wanna Do What?!

Categories: Opinion Maine Commission Moves to Ban Gender Specific Bathrooms, Sports Teams in Schools

According to a report, the Maine Human Rights Commission "is taking heat over a controversial proposal to ban schools from enforcing gender divisions in sports teams, school organizations, bathrooms and locker rooms.  It says forcing a student into a particular room or group because of his or her biological gender amounts to discrimination."

A lot of people seem to be confused about the underlying issue, so let me see if I can straighten this out for them.

You cannot change your gender.  Your gender is determined primarily by your genes - two X chromosomes for women, and one X and one Y chromosome for men.  (There are rare individuals who have, for example, two X chromosomes AND a Y chromosomes.  I recognize that those individuals are exceptions, and I'm excluding them from this opinion.  That's a whole different can of worms.)  There's nothing you or anyone else can do to change your chromosomes or your gender.  There is really no such thing as a sex-change operation, i.e., there is no medical procedure that can change any person's gender. I could sew two long ears on my cat and bob its tail, but that won't make it a bunny rabbit.

Remember Abraham Lincoln's favorite riddle?  "If you call a dog's tail a leg, how many legs would the dog have?"  The answer is four!  It doesn't matter what you call the tail, it's still a tail.

Here's the bottom line: If you're born a boy, you're a male, and you'll always be a male.  If you're born a girl, you're a female, and you'll always be a female.  No one can change that.  Doctors can add tissue and remove tissue, but it doesn't change the reality.  You are what God made you.

If you were born a boy and you want to be a girl, or if you were born a girl and want to be a boy, tough.  What you really need are doctors who specialize in mental and pschological disorders, not surgeons.

Now, about the Maine Human Rights Commission's motion: DENIED!
