America, Where Are We Going?!

Categories: PoliticsCrimeOpinionReligion

There are countless myths about America.  One is that we are free.  The truth is we are the most overlegislated country ever.  That's far from free.

I'm no world traveler, but I have visited Europe, including Russia, a few times. What I immediately noticed about Russia was the freedom they seem to have.  There are no "leash laws".  You can negotiated the fare with a taxi driver.  You could cross the street where the wasn't a crosswalk.  These are just a few examples that come to mind.  It seemed as if Russians had more freedom than Americans.  It isn't supposed to be that way, is it?

This image of the FoxNews.com poll results was captured on October 8, 2010 at 10:37 am. Since the poll had not been closed, the results may have changed.

Here's an example of how serious this problem is in America (click the image, left, to enlarge the screenshot of the results).  I was stunned when I saw this.  I was expecting the opposite result, but here it is.  The vast majority of respondants to a FoxNews.com poll believe a judge should be allowed to jail a person for refusing to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

America, where are we going?!

The poll stems from a decision by Mississippi Judge Talmadge Littlejohn to jail attorney Danny Lampley for refusing to recite the Pledge.

"I don't have to say it because I'm an American," Lampley is quoted as saying in the Associated Press report on FoxNews.com.

Lampley is right - he doesn't have to recite the Pledge.  But he now knows what will happen if he refuses.

This story is particularly interesting to me because I was once jailed, not for what I said, but simply because I wouldn't stop talking when a police officer ordered me to.  The charge was "obstructing a police officer", but was dropped soon after my arrest.  In Lampley's case, he was jailed for refusing to say what the government ordered him to say.

"Toto, I have a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore."

I belong to an organization that recites the Pledge before each meeting.  Before I joined, I explained to the officers that opposed the Pledge because it was composed in 1892 by a socialist, Francis Bellamy, to promote nationalism.  I asked that I be allowed to pray quietly while the others recite the Pledge.  The officers agreed, and I've never recited the Pledge at those meetings.

I will pledge allegiance to my God and to my family, in that order.  And I would pledge allegiance to the government that protects and defends the people and supports the preservation of freedom.  The U.S. government no longer does that.  I will not pledge allegiance to the flag or the republic that's moving us farther and farther to the left, towards socialism, towards Marxism, towards communism, towards Fascism.

The American government is no longer making an effort to preserve the freedom our founding fathers fought for.  And the American people seem to have stopped supporting freedom, as this poll shows, and are supporting the authorities, such as Judge Littlejohn, who are, in my opinion, the greatest threat to freedom in our country.  Will we all need to be jailed before we realize that?
