Sprint vs. Cox - The Worst

Categories: Opinion

January 11, 2010

Sprint tgether with NexTel.
A few years ago Sprint beat out the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and the United States Postal Service (USPS) for the worst customer service in Las Vegas, according to a survey of the readers of the Las Vegas Journal-Review.  That's quite an accomplishment.  I couldn't have agreed more.  At the time, Sprint was the biggest group of thieves I had ever known.  Sprint eventually failed and tried to hide under the name Embarq.  They even changed their primary color from red to green.  Then, Embarq became Century Link.  My experience was so bad with Sprint, I wasn't willing to do business with Embarq or Century Link because of their association with Sprint.  Later, Sprint partnered with NexTel and used NexTel's yellow color.  Sprint was so bad, I won't give NexTel a chance either.

Today, Sprint has a new challenger - Cox Communications.  Cox seems to have picked up where Sprint left off.  Cox will advertise one thing, install something different, and what they bill you for doesn't match what they promised or installed.  They're crooks every step of the way.  For example, they used to advertise their services for "$9.95 per month", and in the fine print, "for the first month."

Around 2001, I had subscribed to high-speed Internet services only.  The installer said cable television was included in the package I chose, so I let him hook up the cable to my television.  Then, Cox started billing me for both high-speed Internet and cable television.  I sent a letter along with the payment telling them I didn't want cable TV, I only wanted high-speed Internet.  The next month, I received another bill for one month of high-speed Internet and two months of cable TV.  I sent another letter along with the payment for one month of Internet only.  This went on for six months until Cox finally cut all my services claiming I wasn't paying my bill.  I haven't had Cox services since then.

In December 2009, my boss moved into a new house, and he switched from a dish to Cox Cable.  He had the same bad experiences I had, plus more.  Cox was billing him for all kinds of things.  They even charged him $6.95 to take his credit card payment over the telephone.  That was the last straw.  Today, he canceled all Cox services, and told them switching from dish was the biggest mistake he had ever made in his life.

If your considering Cox, my opinion (and I'm not alone) is that you'll be happier with no TV and no Internet than you will be with Cox.
