This is an interesting link to a demonstration of how objects we see can become invisible to us (like how an inattentive car driver might not see a motorcyclist). The Motorcycle Safety Foundation calls it 'motion induced blindness'.

This is an interesting link to a demonstration of how objects we see can become invisible to us (like how an inattentive car driver might not see a motorcyclist).  The Motorcycle Safety Foundation calls it "motion induced blindness".

According to Professor Michael Bach, PhD, Ophthalmology, University of Freiburg, Germany, "Steady fixation favours disappearance; blinks or gaze shifts induce reappearance.  All in all reminiscent of the Troxler effect, but stronger and more resistant to residual eye movements."
