Vegas Street Performers Worth Watching (and Tipping!)

There are hundreds of Las Vegas street performers, both on the Strip and Fremont Street.  Musicians, singers, comedians, magicians, acrobats, you name it.  Some are entertaining, and some are talentless.  Then there are a few who stand out and are worthy of attention, and tips.  Here are a few of those.

Julia, The Piano-playing Robot"Julia, The Piano-playing Robot" always draws a crowd.  Ten-year-old Julia is funny - I can't tell you how many shots I've missed because I started laughing.  She dances, she plays the piano, and she's just all-around adorable.  So if you want to see the Fountains of Bellagio (and who doesn't?), look for Julia performing in between fountain shows.
Charles RangelCharles Rangel doesn't live in Vegas, but he occasionally visits and performs with his unique acoustic guitar style.  I can't possibly describe the music that flows from this guys guitar.  It's just something you have to see and hear for yourselves.  Most recently, he's been setting up at the base of the escalator leading from the Bally's Grand Bazaar Shops to Bellagio.
Larry 'The Crooner'If you like Motown hits, you'll appreciate Larry "The Crooner".  He actually sings a variety of styles, but everytime I walk past, he's doing one of my favorites from Al Green, Otis Redding, or any of the other great singers from the past few decades.  I've only seen him work in one location - in front of the Harley-Davidson Café, 3725 Las Vegas Boulevard South, at Harmon.
Julio and CesarJulio and Cesar are relatively new to the Vegas Strip, performing Spanish guitar music flawlessly.  These are true musicians who take their art seriously.  They're usually found just north of the Mon Ami Gabi French Bistro at the Paris Las Vegas.
Bella Electric StringsOkay, is this cheating?  Bella Elecric Strings are really professional musicians.  They're occasionally hired to perform for special events, such as the February 2015 Grand Bazaar Shops opening.  They caught my attention playing Led Zeppelin's Kashmir, a song with interesting changes.  They also took off on a Bruno Mars tune I like.  Classically-trained musicians rockin' out!  I'm including them here because, while they may not have a tip jar, they really are worth listening to (and watching).  So if you happen to cross paths...

Robert Gruenberg - Mar 24, 2015 09:51:45 — Hi Jonas, Thanks again for including my 10 year old daughter Julia in your story about the best street performers worth watching in Las Vegas! Your photos are just great! Please if possible send me any photos of her that I could use. Your viewers can always see video's of Julia by doing a utube search for "Julia Rose Gruenberg next big star says channel 8 news in Las Vegas". Julia is signing a full management contract with Virgin records next month(the president of Virgin records saw her performing right outside Bellagio!) SO she will only be performing in Las Vegas for another few weeks as we are moving to Los Angeles so she can pursue a film and television career. Thanks again for all your kind words about Julia! Robert Gruenberg(Julia's Dad)
Jonas - Mar 24, 2015 03:24:25 — So I got the scoop on the story?!  Congratulations, Julia!!!  That's great!  Now I'll have a place to stay when I visit L.A.  LOL
Jonas - Mar 26, 2015 04:58:34 — Charles Rangel has been booked to perform at the Grand Bazaar Shops very soon.  Although I don't have the dates/times yet, I believe it will be next week.  As soon as I get details, I'll post them here.  If you haven't been to the brand new Grand Bazaar Shops yet, now you have two good reasons to go!  It's at 3635 Las Vegas Boulevard South at Flamingo Road, in front of Bally's.
Jonas - Mar 27, 2015 07:56:38 — Guitarist Charles Rangel performs at the Grand Bazaar Shops in Las Vegas today through Sunday from noon to 3pm and 6pm to 9pm.
Jonas - Jun 30, 2016 08:54:10 — UPDATE: About a year ago, Julia Gruenberg moved to L.A. to work on "Baskets", a TV comedy series on the FX channel starring Zach Galifianakis.  I saw her here in Vegas once after that series debuted, but didn't get a chance to talk with her.

Charles Rangel drops by the Strip occasionally.

Larry "The Crooner" can still be found, though not always in his usual spot in front of the Harley-Davidson Café.

Julio and Cesar seem to have a regular gig near the front of the Grand Bazaar Shops at Bally's (Las Vegas Blvd/Flamingo).

Haven't seen Bella Elecric Strings since February 2015, but like I originally wrote - they're professional musicians, not street performers.
Jonas - Jun 25, 2020 01:52:17 — UPDATE: Everybody's gone.  All the street performers, buskers, dealers, players, even the tourists.  Everybody except Julia Rose.  If Baskets is still on FX, I'm betting she's still on the show, but I haven't seen her on the Strip for a while (prob'ly 'cause I don't leave the house anymore).
